From New York Times best-selling author Mariah Stewart comes the first novel in her all-new series, The Hudson Sisters, following a trio of reluctant sisters as they set out to fulfill their father's dying wish. In the process they find not only themselves but the father they only thought they knew.
When celebrated and respected agent Fritz Hudson passes away, he leaves a trail of Hollywood glory in his wake - and two separate families who never knew the other existed. Allie and Des Hudson are products of Fritz's first marriage to Honora, a beautiful but troubled starlet whose life ended in a tragic overdose. Meanwhile, Fritz was falling in love on the Delaware Bay with New Age hippie Susa Pratt - they had a daughter together, Cara, and while Fritz loved Susa with everything he had, he never quite managed to tell her or Cara about his West Coast family.
Now Fritz is gone, and the three sisters are brought together under strange circumstances There's a large inheritance to be had that could save Allie from her ever-deepening debt following a disastrous divorce, allow Des to open a rescue shelter for abused and wounded animals, and give Cara a fresh start after her husband left her for her best friend - but only if the sisters upend their lives and work together to restore an old, decrepit theater that was Fritz's obsession growing up in his small hometown in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains. Guided by Fritz's closest friend and longtime attorney, Pete Wheeler, the sisters come together - whether they like it or not - to turn their father's dream into a reality, and might just come away with far more than they bargained for.
The Last Chance Matinee The Hudson Sisters Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Mariah Stewart Joy Osmanski Simon Schuster Audio Books
This is first book in the Hudson sisters series. When their father Fritz Hudson dies Allie, Des and Cara get a big surprise at the reading of the will. None of them were aware of the secret life their Father was living. Now in order to get their inheritance the 3 sisters have to work together or none of them gets anything from the estate. This book was a solid 4* rating right up until the ending. You know when you read a book and you get to the end and you are looking for more pages, coz there has to be more? That's how I felt at the end of this book. It's not enough to turn me off on the the rest of the series but it was enough to change my rating. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

The Last Chance Matinee The Hudson Sisters Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Mariah Stewart Joy Osmanski Simon Schuster Audio Books Reviews
I loved stepping back into time as these three sisters try to gain footing and understanding of each other. It is a different kind of love story. My only regret is at my age will I still be here for each of the sequels. I love Mariah's ability to draw a picture in words of small town life which I love. I am looking forward to the next Hudson sister's story.
Love this story! However, I was happily reading along when it ended. Just. Ended. I get that it's a series but this is a very unsatisfying ending. I don't know that i will remember the issues in a year. This kind of ending deserves the next installment in a month or so. I will buy the next book because it's a great story. Ms. Stewart has written series in the past that stand alone. I wish this had tied up a few loose ends.
I enjoyed the story about 3 sisters who per their father's will must restore old theatre. One of the sisters never knew she had 2 other sisters until the reading of their fathers will. All sisters go back to their fathers home town to restore the theatre as there is a bonus to be received by each sister when completed.. The story unfolds discovering history about their father through his sister's eyes. Good novel, looking forward to the next book to be released
I loved this book!!
I was pulled in by the first page. Putting it down was so hard!! (sorry kids, dinner's late)
The only thing I absolutely hated about this book is that I have to wait a year for the next! installment!! I'm ready NOW for Des' story.
I liked the characters that were portrayed in this first book of this series., however, I waited for the pace to pick up and it it never really did. A little bit on the slow side. It took me longer than usual to read this book. It wasn't what I would call a book that you couldn't put down.
I then hen I got to final pages and I when I turned the page, there was no more to the story? It was like the book just stops, there is no ending per say. It was rather strange and left you thinking that is the end? Thats it? It was not like it was meant to be a cliffhanger for the next book but just stops? I will probably give the second book a chance to see if it picks up but if its as slow of a read as the first, I will not purchase the third book of the series.
I usually love allmof this author's books.
This is a story about three sisters and a father they thought they knew and turns out not as much as they thought. Allie and Des realize they have a third sister Cara and an Aunt Barney. Per the reading of the will, to inherit their father's huge estate, they need to live in Hudson Falls for the next year or so until the town theater which is family owned is restored to its former glory. The longer they stay the sisters realize what a big part their family history played in this town and how it survived when small towns all over were dying. Cara is the first to fall in love with Joe as the sparks fly the rest of the sisters are in the process of meeting their matches but do not know it yet! I loved this book!! I could not put it down or read it fast enough. You will not be disappointed!
Have now read much of Mariah Stewart, what with the Chesapeake series and now this new one with the Hudson sisters. It's a well written story, kind of stretched out to three volumes, but the odd thing was my wife and I didn't realize that we had read the middle volume first, then I read this one which should be read first, but really there isn't a great deal of difference between the two, with the exception that a different couple is focused on for each one. She does a nice job in this one featuring a more detailed development of Nikki, the daughter of Allie who is the cynical sister of the trio, and the relationship folks involved are Cara and Joe, as opposed to Seth and Des in the second volume. The theatre bequeathed to the sisters is a permeating theme for both tomes, with the caveat that the balance of the valuable estate of their recently departed father hangs in the sisters working together to complete the restoration of the family theater, which has suffered from long neglect but which offers valuable architectural as well as family virtues locked within its walls. Looking forward to the final or third release to see how it all pans out; I could see that the series could go further than that since there's lots of fertile possibilities to expound upon with the other characters that are steadily being revealed throughout the books. Mariah Stewart is a competent, albeit not outstanding author, with a good ability to reveal a story and contain a modest amount of emotional drama to keep it compelling enough to want to continue to read on in the series.
